On Saturday, 27 September 2025, the 501st Legion Spanish Garrison, a non-profit association created in 2004 and made up of more than 750 volunteers dressed as characters from the Star Wars saga and dedicated to participating in charity events, celebrated its 14th Training Day: the day of the year when all the members of the association gather for a grand parade, each year in a different city.
In 2025, Zaragoza was the city chosen for their Training Day, and GOAT Drones was the company committed to filming the event with UAS. It took months of aeronautical coordination, and we would like to thank all the entities involved for their cooperation:
- CECAF, for coordinating the flight in the Zaragoza Restricted Photography Flight Zone
- Zaragoza Film Office, managers of audiovisual campaigns for the city of Zaragoza, dependent on the Zaragoza City Council, who helped us coordinate with the Zaragoza Local Police
- Cortes de Aragón
- Cabildo de Zaragoza
- Ministry of the Interior, as these were flights in an urban environment
- All the certified GOAT Drones pilots who lent a hand in this campaign
- And, of course, the 501st Legion Spanish Garrison for their trust
We must emphasise that, due to the large crowds attending the event and the fact that it coincided with other sporting events in the city of Zaragoza on the same afternoon, the National Police Air Force declared a TRA (temporarily restricted airspace), authorising only Police UAS flights during the hours when the parade was taking place. For this reason, GOAT Drones was unable to film the parade itself, although we were able to capture images of the Spanish Garrison’s ‘barracks,’ a smaller parade at midday, and, of course, general shots of the beautiful city of Zaragoza and its most emblematic points o interest. In summary, we would like to thank the 501st Spanish Garrison, the Zaragoza City Council, the Zaragoza Film Office, the Aragon Regional Government, the Zaragoza City Council, and the aeronautical managers we have dealt with for this operation for their trust, efficiency, and professionalism.
